Fellow Lions Members,
In June, the club received two requests from the local Red Cross office for financial help. At our board meeting, it was decided that we financially could not help at this time. The requests also came with two other requests that as Lions Club members, we could individually help with. The first one is donations of personal toiletries like the ones we all "collect" as we travel. The second is 3 and 4 ply yarns. The reason for these two requests are simple. Our Red Cross averages around 20 fire victim requests each year. They need personal care items in sample and regular size products for these disaster clientele as well as for the Food Pantry. The Red Cross has volunteers to make afghans for fire victim families. but are in need of yard to create these afghans. I am sure that most of us have these types of items in their home and could be shared with the Red Cross.
For those of you that could, a bag will be available to collect both personal care items and yarn during the four meetings/picnics that we will have in July and August.
Please open your hearts, and remember, We Give.
See everyone on Monday, July12th at Culvers at 6:00 pm.
Yours in Lionism,
King Lion Keith Spycher

A Lions Roar........OLD NEWS, BUT GOOD NEWS
On May 15, 2010, Lions John S. Monahan, John C. Monahan, along with Lion Lloyd Helder, were joined by Lion Harry Johnston from the Baldwin Lions to conduct an eye screening for "Lazy Eye" at two pre-school locations in Mount Pleasant. 68 children were screened for and the results were forwarded to the childrens parents for further evaluation. Funding for the program was from an anonymous donor. Thank you for all of your efforts to help correct this type of eye problem.
From our past King Lion...okay because I know that I will NEVER get through the speech at Charter Night (heck I am crying while writing it!)...here is what I would like to say to everyone (this goes out on charter night doesn't it?)
My Fellow Lions -
Please forgive me for writing my farewell speech in our newsletter...but for those who attended my Charter Night, you know, as I do, that I will never make it through the speech...I am crying as I write it. So instead of writing an email the next day, I am hoping that you will accept my note in our Newsletter.
There are so many of you that have touched my life in so many ways. You have shown me what true compassion really means, the good that we do as a club in our community, the pride we share in achieving our goals, the heart felt thank you's from those we are able to help, these are the some of the things that I carry with me, and will carry with me to my new club. Though I am moving, I am not leaving Lionism...you will see me again!
It has been my honor to serve as King Lion this past year, I am humbled at the thought of being added to the list of those who have served before me. I am touched by the love and concern and friendship that you have shown me and given so freely to me, thank you all - You have a special place in my heart - I love you too.
Thank you for the honor of serving
Yours in Lionism

A Lion's Roar to the committee who organized the 71st annual Charter Night event. The meeting was well attended, the dinner was great, and we thank our guest District Governor Lion Wayne Kreitner and First Lady Debbie Kreitner for attending and inducting our newest member Lion Betty Redleaf-Collett.
Congratulations to Lion Steve Rudoni Jr. as the Mount Pleasant Lion of the Year, to Lion John Osborn for his years of contributions with a special Mount Pleasant Lions Club Service Award, and to Lion John Monahan for the Ken Lautzenheizer award for service to the Lionism.
...to the Lion members and their family and friends who volunteered for Opening Eyes vision screening at this years Michigan Special Olympics on June 3rd, 4th and 5th. This is the 11th year Opening Eyes has been providing vision screenings during Special Olympics Summer Games. This screening provides some athletes with their only opportunity for glasses and safety eye wear for sports. This year over 900 athletes were screened which was the second highest number of athletes screened in the last 11 years of Opening Eyes. Great Job!!!!
